JanetDiretora

    Hello. My name’s Janet.

I’m from Scotland, and after finishing my degree in Edinburgh I trained as an English language teacher and came to Portugal by chance. When I arrived I didn’t know anything about Portugal but now I’ve lived here for many years and it’s definitely my home.

I’ve worked at IH Braga for a long time and can’t imagine working anywhere else. After many years as Director of Studies, I became Director in 2010 and so now I’m responsible for the administration of the school and organizing Cambridge exams. The part of my job that I love the most is having the opportunity to get to know our students (and their parents) from the youngest “Kids” to our adult students. It’s wonderful to get to know so many people over the years and very satisfying to see our students’ progress. I feel especially proud when I hear students that I have known for many years speaking English fluently and being able to use their English qualifications to help them achieve their ambitions out there in the big wide world.

Lots of things have changed in our school over the years: every year is different, in fact every day is different, but I believe the friendly, enthusiastic, welcoming essence of IH Braga has remained the same, and this of course can be explained by the “family” of people who work and study here and make IH Braga such a unique place.

In my free time I love reading, travelling, having the chance to spend some time with my family (and my crazy dog) and being in the open air. I still have lots of ambitions: to visit Nepal, Chile and New Zealand, to learn about astronomy and to climb Schiehallion, my favourite Scottish mountain, at least one more time! Maybe I’ll even manage to climb Ben Nevis!
